Who We Are
Welcome to The Neighborhood! We are a Before and After School Program located in West Springfield, Virginia, providing caring and creative programming in a nurturing environment for the students of Keene Mill Elementary, West Springfield Elementary, Rolling Valley Elementary, and Cardinal Forest Elementary schools. After an afternoon snack and individual homework help, children participate in organized indoor and outdoor activities, self-directed play, and a weekly chapel service. We believe the time before a school day begins and after it ends are important, and we want their time with us to be filled with activities, friendships, and fun.
We are excited to continue to offer different opportunities for our families, including our Hybrid Schedule program, Teacher Workday availability, and enrichment opportunities. If you are interested in these options, fill out the interest form below or send us an email.

Monday – Friday afternoons after school, our doors open with the end of the school day. Our doors close at 6:15 pm and we expect your child to be picked up by this time.

The mornings will be an opportunity to make sure that your child/children are prepared for the day ahead. We will make sure that they have finished any breakfast, as well as any homework.
The afternoons will consist of a snack, the chance to get started on any homework, as well as being active. Including playing games and other activities as planned by our counselors.
Once a week we will also have a short chapel service, led by our director.

Is The Neighborhood a Religiously Exempt Child Care Center?
The Neighborhood is licensed as a Religiously Exempt Child Care Center through Fairfax County. The Code of Virginia, Section 22.1-289.031, allows child day centers operated by religious institutions the opportunity to file for an exemption from licensure by meeting documentation and other requirements specified within the religious exemption law. In compliance with the Code of Virginia, Section 22.1-289.031, this Center is religiously exempt from licensure and is classified as a “religiously exempt child day center.”
This means that our staff have all passed background checks and have been cleared by a practicing physician to be free from any disability which would prevent them from caring for children. While Westwood is a large building, we only use 6 rooms for our program currently. We have been approved by Fairfax County to have a capacity of 50 children. We do have a kitchen on site, which we use to store individually wrapped afternoon snacks. We have play equipment consisting of playground balls, hula hoops, chalk, jump ropes, and frisbees. The Neighborhood is also insured by Brotherhood Mutual for liability insurance purposes.
